Mechanics Advice
Have a 95 wrangler with a Ax-5 tranny that's stuck in reverse. Any ideas why? The shifter would still move but the tranny would stay in reverse. Is there some way to pop it out of reverse or is tearing apart the tranny the easiest way. OR should i just purchase a new one?

I would suggest you start looking into swapping in a better tranny. AX5 is sub standard, I got about 120k out of mine before I had to have mine rebuilt. (a friend did it) But you can throw money at a turd, it's still a turd. And for some reason, most people think they're made out of gold, or at least their prices reflect that. That being said, it sounds like you need a rebuild. Krage Motorsports (www.jeepdoc.com) is a great source for parts, and technical info. Oh... and to answer your question... Drain the fluid and look for chunks... then pop the shift tower off and see if it's jammed up there... If you can't see anything right off, it's internal, either with the shift forks or something else is jammed. Good luck. T

Look for a AX-15 trans for a 4.0l Jeep. Then you'll need the bellhousing, clutch, pp for a Dakota with a 4cyl. Or get the trans from a 4cyl Dakota. They were 2.5l engines with the AX-15 trans.
